5 Of My Favorite Porch Ideas for Summer | Outdoor Oasis

June 18, 2021 Leave a Comment

This post has been sponsored by Wayfair, but all opinions are my own.

Long time, no talk! Life has been extremely busy between running a business and getting to the end of the school year, but we’ve been working hard at making our backyard a fun, relaxing spot to enjoy this summer! With a little help from Wayfair, we’ve given our back porch a nice little facelift for the warmer days. A few simple pieces have really transformed our porch and deck, and we’ve been enjoying spending time outside in the afternoons and evenings! Below, I️’ll share some of my personal favorite back porch ideas for summer.

Outdoor Porch Ideas for Summer

Set the mood with fun lighting.

When we bought our home, there was an old yellowed ceiling fan on the porch, and it really made the space look dated. After we replaced the ceiling fan and added string lighting, this room really came to life and I️ love the warm glow coming from this space every night.

Add a rug for a pop of color.

Our porch has wood laminate flooring in a very warm shade, but the room just felt very cold with the bare floors showing. Adding this super cute striped rug really warmed up the room and made it feel more inviting. I️ love wood floors, but I️ think adding an area rug breaks up the space and makes it feel more homey – if you visit my house, you’ll notice we have area rugs in most of our rooms with hardwood floors for that reason!

Add greenery.

One way to give your back porch and yard a makeover is to add flowers and greenery. To be honest, neither my husband or I️ are great gardeners, but one thing we do decently well is keep fresh herbs alive. We added this planter box to our back porch and planted a few of our favorite herbs – cilantro, basil and oregano. Not only does it add to the space, but it’s very convenient for picking fresh herbs to use when cooking dinner!

Get Grilling.

A grill is a quintessential summer tool, and with so many types, it’s easy for anyone to learn grilling techniques. My husband prefers to grill using charcoal, which can be a bit more challenging, and we love this Weber grill. The copper color is so fun, too. But, if you prefer the ease of a gas grill, there are still some sharp-looking grill options available! Also, we added a nice fire pit to our backyard and we spend some warm evenings outside making S’mores!

Create storage with a deck box.

One of the hardest parts of making your outdoor space an oasis is finding a space to hide away grilling accessories, kids’ toys and outdoor shoes, among other things. We didn’t have a great solution for all of these things until we decided to get a deck storage box – and it has transformed the functionality of our back porch! Now, instead of dirty shoes laying all over the floor and bike helmets sitting on our patio table, they are tucked neatly away in this deck box.

A few simple updates can truly make a world of difference when it comes to your outdoor space, and these porch ideas for summer made a huge difference for us! Now, we enjoy spending time on our back porch, eating dinner and watching movies on a wall projector, and enjoying warm evenings on our deck while the girls play in the backyard.

Prolon Day 3 | The day started off really good — Prolon Day 3 | The day started off really good — I felt very clear-minded and awake this AM 🥳 Truly, I was nervous because today was a very low-cal day and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel 😅 I did grab a plain iced espresso because my energy was depleting super quickly and that def helped 👌🏼 After lunch, though, I started to hate depriving myself of real food and disliked that I couldn’t push myself in my workouts like I usually do 😒 After dealing with three kids who clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed 😆, slicing my hand open with a knife and being cranky and irritable because I’ve been hangry for 3 days, I caved. And sorry, not sorry ✌🏼 I just wanted a dang salad and some protein so I can lift heavy things 💪🏼 Moral of the story, listen to your body and what it needs. And maybe try a 1-2 day cleanse/fast because that’s about all mine could handle 🤪

@prolonfmd Day Two | Overall an easier day than ye @prolonfmd Day Two | Overall an easier day than yesterday 👌🏼 Time went by faster and I didn’t have any nausea from being hungry…I looked forward to and savored all of today’s meals — the black bean soup for dinner was actually really good (esp with a little cumin + paprika!) 🙌🏼 I did @pure_barre this AM and then a @onepeloton walk this afternoon…keeping it light because of how little I’m consuming this week 😅 Not gonna lie, nervous for day 3 because it’s the lightest day of food and I’m already pretty hangry in general 🤣 Interestingly, I’ve felt pretty amazing today other than just craving a real meal 👌🏼 Btw, was so hungry for dinner that I forgot to share it in the reel 🤦🏼‍♀️

@prolonfmd Day One | The struggle is real 😅 I’ve done cleanses in the past so I’m no stranger to this…but coming off a few weeks of holiday drinks and some indulgences, today was no easy feat 🤣 My energy definitely ebbed and flowed throughout the day, and felt weak and nauseated every now and then from lack of calories and protein 🙈 It was the longest day ever, but I cleaned, vacuumed, mopped and then did a @onepeloton walk & yoga class and still had time left over (side note, why doesn’t every day feel this long?! 😆). Actually feeling good this evening after having a sparkling water ‘mocktail’, energized and clear-minded 👌🏼

2022 — what a year ✨ It challenged me in so ma 2022 — what a year ✨ It challenged me in so many ways, but I also thrived in many ways. Continuing to grow a business with a husband, three kids, a dog and two cats is not a simple feat but here we are 😏 We adventured a LOT this year - from Girl Scout adventures to family vacations to HHI, the mountains, OBX and more, we had plenty of fun and made lots of memories 😘 The best part of this year was just really allowing myself to live in the moment and not allow stress to overtake me as I’ve allowed it in the past 😅 I also rediscovered my love of running thanks to my @onepeloton Tread and hit big goals at @purebarre_highlandcreek 💪🏼 Here’s to living more in the present, accomplishing bigger goals and dreams and having an amazing 2023 🥂
