Fall is my favorite season by far – there’s nothing better than cool, crisp weather and cozy clothes. Am I right? I also like to make my home cozier when the weather starts getting chilly – there’s something about the ambiance of a warm, comfy house that I really love. Here are a few ways I add some warmth and coziness at home 🙂
Throw Blankets
I’m so cold-natured, even in the middle of summer. So it’s no surprise that we have several throw blankets that stay on the sofa year-round! We recently added a new blanket-knit gray throw that matches our living room decor perfectly and will be perfect for the fall and winter seasons. I use it every night and prefer not to share it with anyone. #owningit
Candles

I love a good candle (this one is my all-time favorite!). We always have a candle burning when we’re home and tend to stick to seasonal ones around the holidays. Right now, it’s all about the pumpkin and other spicy scents for fall but it won’t be much longer before we start burning all the Christmas scents. Can’t wait 🙂
Rugs
If you ever think a room looks plain or bare, add a rug! We have lots of open space with wood floors and some tile floors, and all it took was adding a rug or two to instantly cozy it up. We have this rug in our living room (except gray instead of beige – here’s another similar one) and it really pulls the room together. You can also use rugs on carpeted floors for a little extra something – here are a few tips for how to do this successfully.
Lamps
When I think of cozy, I tend to be drawn to warm lighting. I love indirect light and really don’t like harsh lighting! That’s why you rarely find ceiling lights on in my house; instead, I prefer to use lamps to warm the space up. We recently switched some of our lights over to LED bulbs, which are incredibly bright in comparison to incandescent bulbs, so I’m trying to get used to that. Admittedly, bright lighting usually makes for better photos, but at night, I prefer to have warm, low lighting on in the house 🙂
Fireplace
If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your home, it’s a great way to add some warmth (literally!). The glow of a fire (whether gas or wood) is perfect for the fall and winter and brings instant coziness to the room. And whether you actually use the fireplace or not, the mantel is an amazing perk within itself. Decorating your mantel can really spruce up your home and this time of year is the best for it – from pumpkins in the fall to holiday garland in the winter, you can’t go wrong with a little mantel decor.
It’s easy to make your home feel cozier and it doesn’t require you to break the bank, either. I actually find a lot of my home decor on sites like Wayfair and Joss & Main and I usually get my inspiration directly from Pinterest. 😉 What’s your favorite way to make your home cozy when it’s cold out?
