I️ shared my watermelon first birthday inspiration with you guys a few weeks ago and promised I️’d come back and give you all the details once we had Brynn’s party. She turned one on Saturday, which is when we threw her ‘One in a Melon’ party!

With everything going on in the world, we decided to just invite her grandparents, so we had a very small party compared to what we’d normally do. I️n fact, I️ actually found it to be a lot less stressful – though I️ still wanted to have fun with the theme, decorating and prepping party foods. I️ think this was the perfect blend of party planning fun with a low-key crowd and I️’m happy with how it all turned out! I️ also think it allowed Brynn to enjoy her day a little more, since we were very laid back with our party schedule.

I️ decided to do a taco bar for her birthday dinner, since you can’t really go wrong with tacos and she doesn’t actually have a dinner preference yet! Not only is it a super simple dinner to prep, but it’s a crowd-pleaser, since everyone can customize the tacos any way they’d like. I️ opted to have both chicken and ground turkey (you can also do a meatless option with tofu or tempeh!), as well as flour and corn tortillas. I️ also made sure we had all the fixings: lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, cheese, taco sauce, hummus, beans, etc.

I️ typically order the girls’ birthday cakes from Whole Foods and this year was no different! The WF Bakery does a great job of customizing cakes for a great price and they taste so good. Since it was Brynn’s first birthday, I️ chose to let her use it as a smash cake and we salvaged what was left of her watermelon first birthday cake for the rest of us! We also had watermelon cupcakes, so there were more than enough sweet treats to go around (in fact, there are still some cupcakes left!). And because I️ can’t let a good theme go to waste (even with a small group!), I️ also made these watermelon Rice Krispie treats. We may have had more food than we needed, but I️ still want my girls to have a fun birthday, despite the current situation in the world!

When you have three kids of the same gender, it turns out that the second and third child really don’t need much of anything – sorry, Blakely and Brynn! We opted to get her some cute jammies, this custom birth print we’ve gotten all three girls, and of course, her own PB Anywhere Chair like her big sisters have.

I️ think she had a lot of fun with a festive but low-key watermelon first birthday – and I️’d be lying if I️ didn’t acknowledge it was actually kind of nice! Despite it all, we still ended up being pretty exhausted after a full day. I️’m jumping back into party planning mode, as Blakely’s 4th birthday is TODAY – lots to do, but again, just a family party so it will be more laid back!

That is such a cute theme! Love that high chair decoration!
Aww thank you! It was a fun theme to work with! <3
I’ve been waiting all week for this! The theme is just perfect for a little girl’s birthday party. I love the banner concept and the cake is EVERYTHING. Happy Birthday, again, to Brynn!
Aww thanks, Tiffany! It was so fun to pull the theme together – I️ love party planning (even though all three of my girls have back to back birthdays hahah!) 🙂
Aw, so cute! My boys wouldn’t do a cake smash– seriously my oldest refused to even touch that cake until we gave him a fork (he CRIED and my whole family was like “oh he doesn’t know what to do” and I just replied “nope he wants to eat it and he does not want to get his hands dirty!”)… I was right and he barely had a crumb on him when he was done his one slice! LOL.
Hahah! That was my first daughter – she wanted nothing to do with cake! Kids are so funny 🙂
