I️’ve always had a vision for what I️ want my yard to look like, but in the past, yardwork just wasn’t a priority compared to all our other responsibilities. When we moved into our new house in Charlotte, though, I️ had big goals for working on the yard to make it exactly how I️ envisioned. There are so many things about our new yard that I️ really like, from having actual trees all around us to having mostly green grass and having a covered porch and deck, just to name a few. Since we’ve been stuck at home over the past month, we’ve had some time to focus on a few easy yard projects that are really making an impact on our home’s curb appeal and I️ thought I️’d share a few ideas if you’re looking for some simple projects to do while quarantining!

1. Plant Grass Seed
We were lucky that our yard already looks decent and we have an irrigation system (a huge perk compared to the yard at our last home), but we do have some spots that are either bare or have some weeds. My husband puts down this product to kill pesky weeds, we aerated and planted some grass seed about two weeks ago and we’re starting to see some new grass sprouting! This is one of those things that we had great intentions of doing in all of our homes, but since we’ve had lots of extra time on our hands, we’ve been able to actually tackle some of these easy yard projects!

2. Plant Flowers
We actually went out and bought some flowers and shrubs right before the stay at home order happened here, which gave us a mini project to complete at the beginning of our quarantine. We went to a local nursery’s grand opening and picked up a few flowering shrubs and then grabbed some pretty annuals from Lowe’s to plant in our front flower beds. We are so bad with plants, but I️’m pleased to say that all of these flowers and shrubs are still alive and well and really add something to our home’s curb appeal!
3. Lay Mulch
Putting down fresh mulch has been on our to-do list for many weeks, and we finally knocked it out this past weekend. Many nurseries and even some Lowe’s, Home Depot and Walmart garden centers are currently offering drive-up for mulch and other gardening items, so now is a great time to tackle these easy yard projects! It’s crazy how much of a difference new mulch can make.

4. Add Entryway Decor
One of the most simple things you can do for your home’s curb appeal is add some entryway decor. When we moved in, I️ purchased this runner and this rug to layer at the front door. I️ just added a garden flag that I️ found while cleaning out the garage. I️ also made my own wreath a while back with floral accessories from Hobby Lobby that I️ change out for different seasons. Next on my list are planters for either side of the front door and a big flag to hang from the porch column.

5. Clean Your Porch/Deck/Patio
I️ told my husband the other day that I️ want a power washer – there’s something so satisfying about how well it cleans everything! But, for now, I️ try to keep our back deck and front porch clean by using our leaf blower and a broom – and occasionally using the water hose to clean it. A simple cleaning job can make a huge difference!

There are so many easy yard projects to tackle right now while we’re all stuck at home! With Amazon and curbside pickup from many retailers, it’s easier than ever to get everything you need while you’re quarantined at home 🙂

You have a great yard!! I am excited to work on our front door and patio decor!
Thank you! Have fun working on your entry and patio – so fun!
I really need to get my rear end in gear and do some of these things! I keep saying I want to decorate my entryway and it hasn’t happened yet. Thanks for the motivation, Brittany. Seeing how pretty your front yard looks I want to do the same.
Aww! We’re starting to get bored over here, so we’ve moved onto tackling projects that we’ve been putting off! 🙂
Great tips! Your house is so pretty!
Thank you! <3
These are such great ideas! We BADLY need to do some work on our yard this year – but haven’t ventured out to get things we need! I know that mulch will make a HUGE difference!
Thank you for sharing these tips! I needed to read this for some motivation over here!
You’re so welcome! It’s the perfect time to tackle it, since we all have more time on our hands (okay, maybe not you since you just had a baby! haha <3) and the weather is beautiful!
