I’m the kind of person that doesn’t necessarily believe in New Years’ Resolutions, but I do believe there’s value in setting healthy living goals for myself to achieve throughout the year. I’m very passionate about health and wellness, so I’m naturally always looking for ways to improve my nutrition and fitness routine. I don’t believe that these improvements have to be drastic, though – small tweaks here and there can have a huge impact day after day. Today, I’m sharing four ways that I’m focusing on healthy living in 2019 and how you can incorporate these small goals into your routine, too!
Focus more on macronutrients.
I’ve been interested in counting macros for a while now but never really dove into the numbers. I’ve started paying more attention to tracking my daily meals in My Fitness Pal, not to count calories, but to see if I’m hitting optimal macros for the day. I’ve found that some days I really skimp on protein, so this has been eye-opening for me and by keeping tabs on it, I can make sure to have a protein-packed snack or have a little extra meat at dinnertime to ensure I’m getting the nutrients I need each day for well-rounded healthy living.
Stay hydrated with zero-calorie beverages.
I typically drink a lot of water, but some days, I have a hard time drinking enough of it (especially when it’s cold out!). I really love incorporating Celestial Seasonings flavored teas into my daily routine because they taste delicious, are calorie-free and many are even free of caffeine. I have a stockpile of them in my pantry at any given time, so I always have options depending on which flavor sounds best at the time – but I had to choose, my favorites would be Honey Vanilla Chamomile, Peppermint or Country Peach Passion. Not only are the flavors amazing, but I also love Celestial Seasonings‘ focus on sustainability and the fact they use stringless bags and recycled boxes to package their teas. Did I mention that I can easily add these budget-friendly teas to my weekly Walmart Grocery pickup order? You can find a variety of Celestial Seasonings teas at your local Walmart, too – be sure to give them a try!
Schedule time for a workout.
I’ve learned over the years as a busy mom that you don’t have to go to a gym in order to get a great workout. The biggest challenge I have these days is making sure I set aside time each day to squeeze one in! Fortunately, my girls are in preschool twice a week, so I always schedule Pure Barre classes during that time. On the other weekdays when they’re home with me, I either stream a Pure Barre On Demand workout or a Beachbody On Demand workout. Oh, the times we live in, right? So convenient! And I also squeeze in Pure Barre on weekend mornings when my husband can watch the girls. Really, just make it a commitment and block off the time on your calendar – it works.
Get enough sleep.
To be honest, this is a work in progress – I still find it easy to get caught up in a show or movie and end up staying awake way too late! However, I’ve been more keenly aware of how much sleep I’m getting ever since I got an Apple Watch for Christmas – I use the SleepWatch app and it does a pretty good job of tracking how long I sleep AND the quality of sleep, too. On days where my mind feels like it’s foggy, I’ll peek at my sleep stats and 99.9% of the time I find I didn’t hit my sleep goal for the night. Also, I’ve been making a mug of Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chamomile at night to help me relax and get ready for bed.
