DIY Walk-In Closet Organization |Home Decor + Gift Wrap Storage

January 29, 2020 Comments : 6

This post has been sponsored by Wayfair, but all opinions are my own.

I️n our last home in Tennessee, we had ample extra space that we didn’t know what to do with – so our bonus room became the junk-room-slash-gift-wrapping-station. It wasn’t pretty, but admittedly, it was a nice space to spread out and tackle all of the holiday gift wrapping!

Fast forward to our new house in North Carolina, and we have slightly less space, forcing us to get more strategic with our storage options. Our guest bedroom has a nice-sized walk-in closet that doubles as our gift wrap closet and seasonal item storage area – but we basically tossed it all in there when we moved in, so it was extremely messy and disorganized! Somehow we made it through the holidays using this space to gift wrap, but I️ promised myself that we would improve the functionality in the new year. I️ recently had the opportunity to partner with Wayfair to revamp our gift wrap storage and I️ can’t wait to share how it turned out!

How to Organize Your Gift Wrap Storage Area

Before I️ decided what types of storage containers I️ needed for the closet, I️ pulled everything out and took inventory of what we had in there. We had several basic needs: a place for the excessive rolls of gift wrap we have (I️ can’t control myself with the Target post-holiday sale!), somewhere for the zillion gift bags we’ve accumulated, somewhere to store bows, ribbon, tape, scissors, craft supplies, party supplies and small seasonal decor.

Next, I️ browsed the Wayfair site to find the best gift wrap storage options that would work for our needs. I️ decided that these wall-mounted wire baskets would be great for organizing our gift bag collection, and a simple laundry hamper would hold some of the excess gift wrap. We already had a gift wrap storage container – luckily – because we needed both to hold alllll of my gift wrap! I️ was very pleased with how these two items worked out for gift wrap storage since neither were technically made for that function. Sometimes thinking outside the box pays off!

I️ had seen a lot of over-the-door gift wrap storage options, but most had space for a few rolls of wrapping paper along with smaller pockets for accessories like tape, scissors, ribbon, etc. Because I️ already had my gift wrap storage squared away, I️ opted instead for an over-the-door shoe organizer, which had lots of small compartments that could be used for not only gift wrap accessories, but small craft supplies as well. I️ saved the bottom compartments for some of the girls’ craft supplies, so they could access as needed.

We had quite a bit of loose items that needed to be corraled, like the million Easter eggs collected over the years, tissue paper, and gift boxes, among other items. I️ opted for these cute printed storage bins to place on the top shelf of the closet.

And finally, for my most favorite purchase for our gift wrap storage closet: this rolling cart with 15(!) drawers. This piece is so versatile and holds *all* the things. I️ used it to organize all of our gift bows (no more getting squished – yay!), seasonal mantel banners, birthday party decor and tableware, paint, coloring accessories, other crafting supplies, etc. In our entire married life, we’ve never had a closet this organized – and to be honest, I️’m glad we chose to overhaul our guest bedroom walk-in/gift wrap storage closet! We’ve always managed to keep most of the house decently organized, but the guest bedroom/bonus room area has always been a mess, so having a tidy and organized closet for our gift wrap storage and seasonal decor is a game-changer.

I love the bins for everything and then using the container for the taller gift wrap!

Aww thank you! We went far too long without having any sort of organization for our gift wrap and craft supplies – it’s so nice being able find and access things as needed! <3

Prolon Day 3 | The day started off really good — Prolon Day 3 | The day started off really good — I felt very clear-minded and awake this AM 🥳 Truly, I was nervous because today was a very low-cal day and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel 😅 I did grab a plain iced espresso because my energy was depleting super quickly and that def helped 👌🏼 After lunch, though, I started to hate depriving myself of real food and disliked that I couldn’t push myself in my workouts like I usually do 😒 After dealing with three kids who clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed 😆, slicing my hand open with a knife and being cranky and irritable because I’ve been hangry for 3 days, I caved. And sorry, not sorry ✌🏼 I just wanted a dang salad and some protein so I can lift heavy things 💪🏼 Moral of the story, listen to your body and what it needs. And maybe try a 1-2 day cleanse/fast because that’s about all mine could handle 🤪

@prolonfmd Day Two | Overall an easier day than ye @prolonfmd Day Two | Overall an easier day than yesterday 👌🏼 Time went by faster and I didn’t have any nausea from being hungry…I looked forward to and savored all of today’s meals — the black bean soup for dinner was actually really good (esp with a little cumin + paprika!) 🙌🏼 I did @pure_barre this AM and then a @onepeloton walk this afternoon…keeping it light because of how little I’m consuming this week 😅 Not gonna lie, nervous for day 3 because it’s the lightest day of food and I’m already pretty hangry in general 🤣 Interestingly, I’ve felt pretty amazing today other than just craving a real meal 👌🏼 Btw, was so hungry for dinner that I forgot to share it in the reel 🤦🏼‍♀️

@prolonfmd Day One | The struggle is real 😅 I’ve done cleanses in the past so I’m no stranger to this…but coming off a few weeks of holiday drinks and some indulgences, today was no easy feat 🤣 My energy definitely ebbed and flowed throughout the day, and felt weak and nauseated every now and then from lack of calories and protein 🙈 It was the longest day ever, but I cleaned, vacuumed, mopped and then did a @onepeloton walk & yoga class and still had time left over (side note, why doesn’t every day feel this long?! 😆). Actually feeling good this evening after having a sparkling water ‘mocktail’, energized and clear-minded 👌🏼

2022 — what a year ✨ It challenged me in so ma 2022 — what a year ✨ It challenged me in so many ways, but I also thrived in many ways. Continuing to grow a business with a husband, three kids, a dog and two cats is not a simple feat but here we are 😏 We adventured a LOT this year - from Girl Scout adventures to family vacations to HHI, the mountains, OBX and more, we had plenty of fun and made lots of memories 😘 The best part of this year was just really allowing myself to live in the moment and not allow stress to overtake me as I’ve allowed it in the past 😅 I also rediscovered my love of running thanks to my @onepeloton Tread and hit big goals at @purebarre_highlandcreek 💪🏼 Here’s to living more in the present, accomplishing bigger goals and dreams and having an amazing 2023 🥂
