Halloween has always been a fun holiday, through all of the different ages and stages of life – but I have to say that having kids makes it a million times more exciting! I love seeing how excited my girls are to pick out their costumes and how trick or treating brings them so much joy.

So, like most of the mamas in Charlotte, I was super disappointed to hear that Halloween night was going to be a washout with dangerous storms! I was hoping for the best but tried to come up with a backup plan just in case we weren’t able to actually trick or treat. A lot of neighborhoods in the area got on board with moving Halloween to Friday (which also sparked lots of rage between neighbors online…it was entertaining to say the least!), but ours is so large that it was an impossible feat.

Since it looked like we were going to have bad storms all night, I decided to take the girls to our local IKEA since they had a trick or treat event during the day. To be honest, it was just okay, but it made the girls happy and I got to browse IKEA for a bit! We also considered taking them to an indoor event that night if the rain didn’t stop, but by 7, the storms had passed and we were able to get out in the neighborhood to trick or treat. Pro tip: take a beer or tumbler of wine for the walk – made Halloween fun for the adults too! 🙂

After getting way too much candy, we decided to head home and have dinner. I pulled together a simple themed meal with mummy hot dogs, jack o’ lantern quesadillas and a festive dessert tray (that we probably didn’t need with all the candy they got!
