When we realized that we were starting to get behind on wedding plans, we really got it together quickly and started making progress. 🙂 One thing that we both talked about off-and-on was our honeymoon plans, but we hadn’t really been actively looking for the perfect destination. In the past few weeks, I finally started researching places in the Caribbean to get ideas. We both wanted to go somewhere in the Caribbean, where it’s warm and sunny, even in October. We also considered London (we both love the city)…but that was rejected due to cost and the fact that ultimately, a relaxing week at a tropical resort is what we need after we celebrate our wedding. 🙂
A cruise had been suggested, but I truthfully don’t think a cruise is romantic at all…and it’s definitely not where I want to spend my honeymoon. Am I alone in thinking this? I’ve been on a cruise before, and all I think about is a 24/7 party with lots (and lots) of alcohol and kids. <–should those two things even be in the same sentence? Anyways, I digress. We started looking for resorts on Caribbean islands, and soon realized we definitely wanted to go the “all-inclusive” route. It’ll be so nice to just be able to relax and know that everything is taken care of for the duration of the stay! We were looking at more “exotic” places like Turks and Caicos and Tortola, but didn’t really find a resort that we loved. There aren’t as many all-inclusive resorts out there as you’d think!
After about two weeks of research, we finally came across a destination that we both loved….and ironically, it’s not too exotic and is actually a popular honeymoon destination these days. We like to go against the grain usually, so I was surprised at both of us actually liking this resort. Anyways, onto the destination. 🙂 We ended up choosing – The Dominican Republic! I think what I like most about our resort is that it’s halfway between Punta Cana and Santo Domingo on the southeast coast, and doesn’t have other resorts built right beside it….which is nice. It seems like the big cities are overcrowded with resorts and tourists…and I can’t stand that. Case in point: I refuse to go to Myrtle Beach because it’s “touristy”. I’ll take the Outer Banks over any other beach, any day. I guess I don’t like people? Oops. 🙂
Booking our honeymoon reminded me just how quickly our wedding is coming up! I truthfully can’t wait to spend eight days in the Caribbean with the love of my life, celebrating the joy of finally being married. We’re excited about the wedding, sure….but for so many reasons, the honeymoon has been the most exciting part of the planning process…because when we leave for the Dominican Republic, it’ll be the first day of the rest of our lives as a married couple. <3
