…we’re homeowners! Actually, we’ve been homeowners for over a week, but we’ve been super busy getting everything unpacked and organized – and we just got Internet access yesterday…finally! With a lot of help from my parents, we got everything nearly everything unpacked and put away last weekend. This weekend, they helped put up ceiling fans in the living room and bedrooms, and pendant lights in our kitchen. With all of that completed, we’re almost completely done minus hanging a few pictures on the walls and getting a bedroom suit for one of our guest rooms.
The Friday before last was our closing day, and to put it lightly, it was the most nerve-wracking day for me! I was so terrified something would go wrong or get delayed – of course, after dealing with our lender, that wouldn’t have been a surprise…they messed up our paperwork no less than 4 times throughout the process. Luckily, everything did go smoothly with closing, and we immediately went to our apartment to begin loading boxes to carry to our new home. We were so motivated, that we actually got our bed moved and slept in our new home on the first night!
Owning a home is so gratifying, and it just feels so comfortable. I hated living in an apartment – it just never felt like home. I know some people prefer the rental lifestyle, but it just wasn’t for me. It’s nice to have a place of your own to create memories in. It’s also nice to have space! Especially since I’d love to invite friends and family over and play hostess…I love that, but never had the space to do so before now!
I definitely think that buying a brand new home was a plus, too. We’re the first people to live here, and it’s a blank slate for us to decorate how we’d like to. When we looked at other homes for sale, some were older, occupied homes, and I really had a hard time picturing it becoming our home. The ‘new house’ smell isn’t so bad, either. 🙂
Stay tuned for a little bit of a home tour – we still have a ways to go with a few rooms, but I’ll share what’s been done so far! Tomorrow: dining room tour!
