I’m all about cozy when it comes to living room decor – I don’t love stuffy, uncomfortable furniture or pieces that aren’t functional. I’m also really anti-formal living room, since it wouldn’t get much use around these parts. 🙂
Here in southwestern Tennessee, it’s super common to have a living room and a ‘hearth room,’ which is an area that’s usually right off the kitchen – that many people transform into a second living room with a sofa. We ended up doing that, too, but since our hearth room is primarily a play area for the girls, our ‘real’ living room gets a lot of use. Especially late-night Netflix binges…I’m looking at you, House of Cards.
Like the rest of our home, our living room was a boring beige color when we moved in, but thankfully we painted it soon after we got settled! There’s still so much I want to do with this room, but I’ve tried to make mindful decor decisions and really pull everything together – so it’s still a work in progress. Our coffee table and rug are newer purchases, as I wanted something that better fit the space and decor look we were trying to achieve. The next big thing we want to do in here is replace the entertainment console with something brighter (either white or a light wood that matches the coffee table and console table) and mount the TV on the wall (which means moving the gallery wall…). Also, definitely want to change out the builder-grade light fixture and install a big ceiling fan! And of course I miss my beautifully styled coffee table some kinda bad, but at this phase of life (aka toddlers), it just can’t be done. I’m surprised those magazines even stayed put while I took photos. 😉
Here’s what our living room looks like currently:

And just for fun, this is really what our living room really looked like before I removed most of the toys. And it’s rarely ever this neat…gone are the days of a perfectly clean house. 😉
