TIU: First Week

So far, so good. I’m really loving how I feel after eating cleanly this week. It’s only been 3.5 days since I started  following the Tone It Up plan, but my body feels better since my diet is now full of fruits and vegetables! While I’ve always eaten healthily, I found myself resorting to quick and convenient foods because it was easier during the week. This is what I was eating in a typical day before TIU:

  • Breakfast: Kellogg’s Fiber Plus Cinnamon Oat Crunch High Fiber Cereal with light soymilk and a banana
  • Lunch: Arnold 100-Calorie Sandwich Thin with low sodium turkey lunchmeat (yikes) or albacore tuna, and usually 1/2 cup of green grapes
  • Dinner: Grilled chicken with baked potato/baked sweet potato fries and a vegetable such as roasted broccoli
  • Snack: Usually nonfat greek yogurt or 1% cottage cheese with cereal and maybe fruit or peanut butter

Even though that might seem like a “healthy” diet, I wasn’t happy with all of the processed foods and lack of vegetables in my diet. Sure, it’s pretty low-calorie, but I wasn’t filling up on green veggies and I was missing out on some of the “superfoods” that we should all be consuming! I also wasn’t consuming enough protein. I’ve questioned my protein intake before, when I tried The Dukan Diet last year, which is protein-heavy. When I tested out the Dukan plan, I was consuming far more protein than I ever had before…but Dukan is a DIET, and not a lifestyle…not to mention it deprived you of well-rounded nutrition as it shunned all carbs – fruits and veggies included – for the beginning of the diet. So anyways, back to TIU. 🙂 I like that my diet is more balanced now and I’m more in touch with the ratio of carbs: protein: fat that I’m consuming. I track my meals with the MyFitnessPal app on my iPhone, which is great! It gives you detailed nutrition info, and it even tracks essential vitamins (btw, I consumed 854% of my daily Vitamin A requirement as a result of Tuesday’s meals!).

Wednesday
  • Breakfast: TIU Protein Pancake, Bombshell Spell, coffee with a splash of light soymilk & stevia
  • Snack #1: 1/3 cup nonfat greek yogurt with 1/4 cup mixed berries 
  • Lunch: Panera Thai Chopped Chicken Salad (without crunchy wontons)
  • Snack #2: medium Granny Smith apple…because I was going to Hot Yoga and needed carbs (since I didn’t have any carbs/fruit with lunch) *normally wouldn’t have fruit in the afternoon
  • Dinner: TIU Grilled Hawaiian Chicken with grilled veggies

Thursday (so far…)

  • Breakfast: TIU Protein Pancake, Bombshell Spell (order TIU for the recipe!), coffee with a splash of light soymilk & stevia
  • Snack #1: 1/3 cup nonfat greek yogurt with 1/4 cup mixed berries
  • Lunch: Kale salad with tofu and mixed grilled veggies, 1/3 cup fresh pinapple
  • Snack #2: Broccoli with hummus
  • Dinner: – to be determined!
Overall, I’m consuming SO many more vegetables and fruits on a daily basis, and not relying on more processed forms of carbs (like bread and cereal). The nice thing is, I’m still getting enough carbs, and in some cases, even more than I used to on a daily basis. Since I tend to work out for 1 to 1.5 hours pretty much every day, it’s important that I am getting enough carbs for energy…especially since I like to run long distances! With some “diets”, you’ll notice a reduction in energy if your body is deprived of something (for example, The Dukan Diet deprives you of carbs), so you can’t even work out to your full potential…if at all. It’s not enough to just change your diet…you also need to find a workout that you love and stick to it. Even if you’re losing weight, you’re not going to look toned unless you also have a fitness regimen that you follow (and make sure that regimen includes strength training)!

Prolon Day 3 | The day started off really good — Prolon Day 3 | The day started off really good — I felt very clear-minded and awake this AM 🥳 Truly, I was nervous because today was a very low-cal day and I wasn’t sure how I’d feel 😅 I did grab a plain iced espresso because my energy was depleting super quickly and that def helped 👌🏼 After lunch, though, I started to hate depriving myself of real food and disliked that I couldn’t push myself in my workouts like I usually do 😒 After dealing with three kids who clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed 😆, slicing my hand open with a knife and being cranky and irritable because I’ve been hangry for 3 days, I caved. And sorry, not sorry ✌🏼 I just wanted a dang salad and some protein so I can lift heavy things 💪🏼 Moral of the story, listen to your body and what it needs. And maybe try a 1-2 day cleanse/fast because that’s about all mine could handle 🤪

@prolonfmd Day Two | Overall an easier day than ye @prolonfmd Day Two | Overall an easier day than yesterday 👌🏼 Time went by faster and I didn’t have any nausea from being hungry…I looked forward to and savored all of today’s meals — the black bean soup for dinner was actually really good (esp with a little cumin + paprika!) 🙌🏼 I did @pure_barre this AM and then a @onepeloton walk this afternoon…keeping it light because of how little I’m consuming this week 😅 Not gonna lie, nervous for day 3 because it’s the lightest day of food and I’m already pretty hangry in general 🤣 Interestingly, I’ve felt pretty amazing today other than just craving a real meal 👌🏼 Btw, was so hungry for dinner that I forgot to share it in the reel 🤦🏼‍♀️
